The dark side of fashion

For the most part, fans of the fashion industry have a distorted vision of how it actually is in reality. Regardless of all we see on the outside, in the world of fashion not everything that shines is gold.

When we look at a magazine or a catwalk we think about the models, in the way they look like recently taken out of a box dolls; but we do not tend to think about all that they have to go through to get to that point.

The ideal for the “perfect” women is someone tall and thin, but we fail to realize that beauty lies on the inside, not the outside. And are those ideals the ones that make it so that each time more teenagers suffer diseases like anorexia or bulimia. By recent studies, the girls situated between the ages of 16 and 18 years old, are the ones that more frequently suffer from illnesses of this kind.

In my opinion, I think that we should be more aware that perfection does not exist and that we do not have to be slaves to the society that surrounds us.

Have you ever thought that being skinny would make you happier?

Happiness is a mood that shouldn’t depend on if you are more or less skinny, or if the society thinks that you are beautiful or not. Happiness depends on YOU.

Everyone has a different body type, so is not necessary to pretend to have Karlie Kloss´s body to feel like you are happy. Whatever is it that you want, is for YOU to decide, not for others to take that choice from you.

If you have overweight problems and this is affecting your health and physical shape, losing weight is a proper solution. But it won’t be a solution if you do it to be more like a super model, or to be accepted by the fashion industry. Sooner or latter you will see that being super skinny doesn’t make you a happier person.

“The taller and skinnier models are happier” “Being skinny will solve all my problems” “ I will never be skinny enough” this are NOT TRUE!

If the society and the fashion industry tell us that one super skinny type of body is perfect, this doesn’t have to determine the opinion that we have about our own bodies. We are part of this society and we can change this perception for a different one, where the types of beautiful bodies will be every type that exist naturally and not the ones that will cause biological disorder or health issues.

We all have Imperfections (if they can be consider as such), even the famous models. Every one of us should learn to accept these so called “imperfections” by the way they are and then happiness and self-satisfaction will be a step closer.

So remember that your healthiness and your happiness are more worthy than chasing a beauty ideal imposed by a society that cares more about the size of the women, than the women herself.

You DON’T need to starve to be happier, you DON’T need to size cero to be more beautiful, so LOVE yourself for what you are and prove to society what is wrong!

What it´s wrong with the Fashion Industry?

Its’s not a secret that the fashion is characterized for the stereotypes of young, tall and super skinny girls, with porcelain faces that evoke perfection all the time. But as the years go by more are the critics to the fashion industry for promoting a not realistic and anti-natural image.

It is known of many agencies that force the models to lose weight if they want to be “suitable” for a specific campaign or catwalk, even if this means physical or psychological damages in the model.

You can find testimonies on this topic and also a wave of legal regulations have come up in some countries, like UK, to try to censor this type of behavior.

Even that it’s true that every time we see more “curvy” models on the runways, like Gigi Hadid; and that exits the movement of “plus size models” all this models doesn´t have real support of the highs brands and the public like the super skinnies models still have.

Clearly there is a problem to solve in the fashion industry because one thing is promoting the beauty and style of the women, and other very different is reduce the beauty to one stereotype body, that its unhealthy and changes the perception of beauty in all the teenagers and women of the world.

Famous models like Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss claim that they have been struggling with physical and self-esteem problems in the fashion world.

Beauty it’s not only one type of body, everyone has beauty and unique characteristics. So why don’t we stop asking: What its wrong with my body? and we star asking: What its wrong with the fashion industry?
